The quantum computing myth

Q: What is up to date that I can read around the reality or myths of the effects of “quantum” on encryption?

A: The threat is massively overstated — most of the investment in Quantum Computing was because of its potential to bust crypto(graphy). The reality is the folks in cryptographic stuff did post-quantum algorithms so fast that the motive for government investment in QC went away.

While there’s a residual value to QC for AI, there are other much more powerful solutions for faster/more efficient AI hardware accelerators that don’t require (multiple) possible physics breakthroughs and are motivated by many applications. Optical interconect of devices on chip for neuromorphic computing can reduce energy cost by 1000x and increased speed/scale is probably only 1-2 years off, and is largely known engienering

So the quantum thing isn’t a myth, but it is a bust.

PS Quantum sensing is much more interesting 😁
